Product Description

WHAT IS MATCHA?

Matcha is a refined Japanese green tea.

Cultivated in Japan, matcha is an extremely fine and fragrant powder.

Our matcha comes from the city of Uji, on the southern outskirts of Kyoto Prefecture.

The climatic conditions of this area are perfect for the production of matcha. Soil and climatic conditions ideal for tea cultivation are essential in obtaining high quality matcha.

WHAT IS YOUR GRADE OF MATCHA?

Ours is a Culinary Grade, ideal for preparing cakes and as an ingredient in recipes. The "Cerimonial" and "Premium" versions are also available, and are ideal for drinking tea and for mixing with water.

PREPARATION IN CAKES AND SHAKES

Add Matcha tea powder to your shakes, milk or your oven-baked cakes. It is recommended using a maximum of two portions per day (about one teaspoon). Exceptional also if mixed with other flavourings such as vanilla, cinnamon and white chocolate.

DOES IT CONTAIN CAFFEINE?

Yes, each portion (1 g) contains about 30 mg of caffeine, equivalent to 1/3 of a cup of coffee. Matcha also contains theanine, which has a calming effect and reduces the effects of caffeine.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PREMIUM GRADE, CULINARY GRADE AND CEREMONIAL GRADE?

Premium Grade and Cerimonial Grade are suitable when used as drinking tea, in drinks, and as an ingredient for cooking.

Culinary Grade is suitable only as an ingredient in cooking, in recipes or added to shakes and milk.

THE ORIGIN OF MATCHA TEA

origin of matchaorigin of matcha

The MATCHA TEA is produced in Japan.

The climatic conditions and the high quality of the soil of the city of Uji in the southern suburbs of the Kyōto prefecture favor the production of an excellent matcha tea

The matcha tea of the NaturaleBio comes from the city of Uji, Kyoto.

HOW MATCHA IS CULTIVATED amp; PROCESSED - 100% PURE AND ORGANIC

The quality of matcha also depends on the specific plant variety, or cultivar, used. The main cultivars are:

  • Yabukita
  • Okumidori
  • Samudori
  • Asahi

Yabukita is surely the main cultivar from which the finest and best matcha is obtained.

NaturaleBio Matcha comes from the Yabukita cultivar.

Hilly and mountainous areas are ideal for cultivating high quality matcha. Matcha is shade-grown for 15 to 20 days before being harvested towards the middle of May. In ancient times, growers used straw, but today they use black coverings to protect the plantation from sunlight. This cultivation method preserves all the properties of the matcha.

Keeping the tea leaves away from the sun maintains high levels of chlorophyll and theanine, essential for preserving the beneficial properties of the tea.

USEFUL QUESTIONS:

  • The flavour of matcha reminds me of seaweed and fish. Is this normal?

Matcha tea has a much stronger flavour than other green teas. This is because it is prepared as a powder in suspension. You should be able to perceive some notes of freshly sprouted herbs, similar to the taste of some vegetables, such as spinach for example. This gives matcha tea a very distinctive flavour. Some people, on the other hand, perceive a more “umami” flavour, similar to seaweed and the sea. However, everyone’s perception of taste and flavour is subjective, personal and somewhat different.

  • How much catechin does matcha green tea contain?

There are 10 grams of catechins per 100 grams of matcha. The quantity of catechins is the sum of various different types of catechins, including Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). It is not possible to establish exactly how much of each individual catechin there is.

  • Is NaturaleBio Matcha Green Tea tested for radiation, heavy metals and pesticides?

European regulations require mandatory radioactive testing and analysis, and, in any case, the tea plantation is located over 700km from the Fukushima power plant. Our products are, therefore, fully tested for radiation, as well as controlled for organic origin, and are produced at a completely safe distance from the Fukushima power plant.

All NaturaleBio products are organic, and, therefore, strictly exclude the use of a whole series of substances, including pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides and dyes (Controlled Operator Number: 13084 IT BIO 014). Analyses are performed on every production batch, and heavy metal levels are always strictly below maximum thresholds.

  • Does matcha powder contain gluten? Why is it not specified on the label?

Matcha powder is a naturally gluten-free product. For “naturally gluten-free” products, “gluten-free” labelling cannot be used according to Article 7 of EU Regulation 1169/2011, since, by their very nature, they do not need to declare the absence of gluten.

  • I started taking matcha and have experienced some side effects. Is this normal?

Our Matcha Green Tea is 100% pure and natural. Matcha tea is rich in theanine and caffeine, and, therefore, some undesirable effects may be linked to an excessive consumption of matcha or to a particular sensitivity to caffeine. If you are particularly sensitive to caffeine, you could try consuming matcha tea on a full stomach, and should not exceed indicated doses.

  • How much matcha tea can I drink, and what is the best time of day to drink it?

The recommended portion is 1 gram, about half a teaspoon, twice a day. There is no particular time of day to drink matcha tea, but, if you are particularly sensitive to caffeine, it is better to avoid drinking it in the evening to prevent it from affecting your sleep.

  • I bought the culinary grade matcha. Can I use it to make tea?

Although culinary matcha is of a lower quality than premium and ceremonial matcha, there is no reason you cannot drink it as tea, except for the fact that the flavour will be less intense and the quality less refined.
